06:30 PM Guiding and Caring Through a Relationship Lens
Guiding and Caring Through a Relationship Lens
Description: When we are looking at guiding and caring for the children in our centres, we often focus more on the “theories” and less on practical day-to-day strategies to make all children comfortable in our centres. This is especially true for children with sensitivities or developmental delays that limit their abilities to make quick connections. In this workshop, we hope to provide you with some ideas of what guiding and caring really means in a group setting and some practical ways to connect with all the children in your centre. Presenters: Pia Evans and Shawna Moores Suitable for all early learning and child care professionals who live or work in Delta, Surrey, or White Rock. To register please call our office: 604.572.8032 This workshop is presented in partnership with Reach Child and Youth Development Society.

06:30 PM The JOY of Patiently Waiting – Online Workshop
The JOY of Patiently Waiting – Online Workshop
Description: “Those things you learn without JOY you will forget easily” – Finnish Saying. I have held so many little, unmotivated hands in my life; impatiently forcing them to write. I’ve used meaningless rote teaching methods just to hurry up and check the boxes that a child “knows” their numbers and letters way before they had a need for them. My eyes have since been opened to the error in my ways. I now fully understand when adults are patient, and give children time to develop what must come first, the task of reading and writing is full of JOY. This workshop is all about identifying the “BEFORE” skills along with simple, open-ended material ideas that create opportunities for children to develop all that MUST be developed BEFORE writing, reading and using number knowledge. Patiently focusing on what is truly important NOW leads to joyful success later.
